Project
Among the warehouses and old industrial buildings of Mandra, Attica we were asked to design the SHOWKITCHEN. SHOWKITCHEN is a project located within an industrial complex (total covered area of 1700 sqm) that aims to promote, prepare and serve food products (dry food).
The original use of the site was for storage and handling of products, in an industrial building which had already undergone severe alterations in relation to its original character. The client's instruction was to design and create a space to host and record cooking workshops, attract catering professionals and advertise products - and food.
Having as a starting point and inspiration the existing simplicity of the shell, we were led to arrange and design the space with a similar synthetic logic. The exposed concrete of the load-bearing structure was retained and highlighted, and the rest space was surrounded with wood, metal and glass structures.
As the visitor enters the space, at the side he faces the zone that houses the more introverted spaces: the chef's office and the pantry. The pantry unfolds through a structure with metal support and wooden shelves. The main section of SHOWKITCHEN is surrounded by a wooden structure that houses the 15 sqm face area professional kitchen and various other functions that serve the needs of the space. Its conception and design were based on two parameters. First, its harmonization with the style and character of the building and second its response to the basic needs of the chef. In direct relation to the other elements of the space, strict lines were used both vertically and horizontally creating a unified and continuous spatial identity.
